Learn How to Have the Best Poker Hands

Poker hands are downright confusing. When you're a novice player, you've probably spent more time studying the different poker hands than on mastering the rules of the game. Can't say we blame you!

The names used to describe poker hands don't help either. Why do they call poker hands made up of three of a kind and a pair of cards a full house? Connection, where?

But enough griping about the confusing variety of poker hands - we'll teach you what you have to know about the different poker hands and we'll also help you have the best poker hands when playing the game - even if it seems impossible!

The highest form of poker hands are called royal flushes. These poker hands are made of 5 specific cards - A, K, Q, J and 10 - that belong to the same suit. Do not even wonder about the odds of having poker hands of this type - near nil!

The next best type of poker hands are called straight flushes. Basically, all you need is 5 cards that are consecutive and belong to the same suit. Again, the probability of getting poker hands of this type is slim.

The third best type of poker hands are called four of a kind - it's fairly easy to master this type of poker hands because all you need to have is all the different suits of one number.

The fourth best type of poker hands is called the full house - if you're already holding a pair of cards, can you guess what's the probability of turning your pair of cards into a full house? 1%!

The fifth type of poker hands are called flushes - any 5 cards that belong to the same suit. And the sixth type of 5-card-poker hands is called straight poker hands and they're composed of 5 consecutive cards belonging to any combination of suits.

Now, even though the chances seem slim when you're holding bad poker hands, don't give up right away. Patience is always the key in winning poker. Even if nothing good turns out from the flop, don't give up on your poker hands yet.

Lastly, do your best not to play too many poker hands - this is the most common reason why only a few can call themselves good poker players. In fact, a lot of experts suggest that players only play 15-20% of their poker hands.

Have fun playing poker. And even if the chances of you having a same-suited Ace and King as your first two cards is 331:1, we'll pray for you all the same!
