In draw poker, there has to be two to six players to play. When playing for high stakes, it should be limited to a maximum of six players. It is good to play even with ten players but as a general rule when the cards get exhausted, discards are assembled for players who still need to draw for them to complete their hands.

Draw poker uses the standard 52 card in a deck. As a tip, prepare two decks (preferably of different backs and color) so when a player calls for a change of deck it can be done immediately.

The goal in draw poker to have the higher-ranking five card hand than any other player. The player who has the best hand is declared the winner and takes home the pot.

In draw poker, there are two types of ante used. In one type each player before the dealing of the cards gives an equal amount into pot. All must do the same. The order of handing if antes begins with the player to the left of the dealer rotating clockwise.

Or the ante could be on the person who is to be the dealer in the round of play. It is called the dealer's edge; the player whose turn it is to deal antes an amount into the pot. In using dealer's edge, new player can join the game until it is his or her turn to deal; only when it is time for him or her to deal - this is after all the players on the table have tried being the deal.

The game proceeds with alternating rounds of drawing and betting until it comes to the showdown when a winner is to be chosen.
